Nighthawks Boys’ Ice Hockey Maintains Perfect Record
On Dec. 31, the North Haven boys’ hockey team took to the road to take on the Farmington Valley Generals in a key Division 2 matchup. North Haven struck first in the contest, as Tommy Guidone opened the scoring at 6:02 of the first period. Assists were credited to Will Sullivan and Bryce Mastriano to give the Nighthawks a 1-0 lead. In the second period, North Haven extended their lead to 2-0 as Tommy Guidone potted his second score of the game, with Will Sullivan and Bryce Mastriano picking up the assists again at 10:20 of the second. The Nighthawks made it 3-0 at 12:29 of the third period as Paul Mastriano scored his first career goal, with Jake Donovan picking up the assist. Farmington Valley added one goal late in the third but it was not enough, as North Haven skated away with a 3-1 victory to extend their record to 4-0. Bryce Petersen picked up the win in net for the Nighthawks.
On Jan. 4, the Nighthawks hosted SCC D2 foe Watertown/Pomperaug. North Haven started the scoring at 13:33 of the first period, as Jake Donovan, on assists from Will Sullivan and Tommy Guidone, gave the Nighthawks a 1-0 lead. In the second period, Tommy Guidone extended the Nighthawks lead to 2-0, with assists going to Will Sullivan and Owen Quick, at 3:47. Watertown/ Pomperaug cut the lead to 2-1 at 4:03 of the second period, and eventually tied the game at 2-2 at 14:09 of the third period. This goal ultimately sent the game into overtime. Tommy Guidone ended the game at 0:49 of the overtime period, with assists going to Will Sullivan and Alex Petersen, to give the Nighthawks a 3-2 victory and extend their record to 5-0. Bryce Petersen picked up his 5th victory of the year between the pipes for North Haven.
On Jan. 7, the North Haven boys’ hockey team played host to the Amity Spartans in a key Division II clash at the Northford Ice Pavilion. From start to finish, the Nighthawks controlled the play as they peppered the Amity goalie with constant pressure. Will Sullivan started the scoring at 3:19 of the first period, with Tommy Guidone and Paul Mastriano picking up the assists to give North Haven a 1-0 lead. Owen Quick extended the lead to 2-0, with Will Sullivan and Bryce Mastriano on the assists, at 13:05 of the second period. 36 seconds later, Alex Petersen made it 3-0 on assists from Owen Quick and Tommy Guidone. In the third period, North Haven made it 4-0 on a goal from Bryce Mastriano, with Tommy Guidone and Will Sullivan picking up the assists at the 7:21 mark. Nolan Cole closed out the scoring, with Will Keaney on the assist, as North Haven picked up a convincing 5-0 victory. Bryce Petersen recorded the shutout in net for North Haven as they improved to 6-0 on the season.
