Nighthawks Wrestling Grabs First Team Win in Program History
On Dec. 27, the North Haven Wrestling team competed in the Joe Beler Duals at Jonathan Law High School. Other teams who participated were Jonathan Law, Bunnell, Derby/Oxford//Holy Cross, Masuk, Middletown, Morgan, Platt, Plainville, Ridgefield, Shelton, and Harding.
North Haven wrestling five matches and went 1-4 on the day, but the Nighthawks recorded their first team win in program history.
In round one, Plainville topped North Haven 51-30. In round two, North Haven defeated Morgan 48-36. In round three, North Haven faced Ridgefield (54-30), and in round four the Nighthawks fell to Bunnell (47-36). Finally, in round five, Shelton came out on top over North Haven (51-28).
Leading North Haven was sophomore Tyler DiMauro at 182/195 lbs. Tyler had 3 wins and they were all pins. Sophomore Jace Iamunno had 2 wins by pin at 145/152lbs, as did junior captain Nathan Ruggiero at 170 lbs. Sophomore Luke Asbury won 2 matches as well, one by pin and one by a major decision for the Nighthawks at 145lbs. Also contributing with varsity wins by pin were Hayden Minns at 120lbs, senior captain Michael Bolduc at 170 lbs, Alexander Molyneaux at 195 lbs, Christian DeMaio at 182 lbs, and Joseph Carbone Jr. at Heavyweight.
The Nighthawks return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 4 for a dual meet at Jonathan Law beginning at 7 p.m.
