Old Lyme-Valley-Saybrook Girls’ Swimming Participates in Class S State Championship

The Old Lyme-Valley Regional-Old Saybrook (OL-VR-OS) girls’ swimming team competed in the Class S State Championship meet that was hosted at Southern Connecticut State University on Nov. 15. The Wildcats finished in 17th place out of 23 teams by posting an overall score of 100 points at the state meet. Weston finished in first place with a score of 782 points, and Woodland came in second place with 492 points scored in the meet.

Senior Elly Rothrock of Valley Regional finished 10th in the 200 individual medley and took 11th place in the 100 butterfly for OL-VR-OS at the Class S State Championship. In the 200 IM, Rothrock swam a time of 2:24.43 on her way to claiming 10th place. Later in the meet, Rothrock posted a mark of 1:04.21 in the 100 butterfly to finish in 11th place for the event.

Senior captain Lauren Lee of Old Saybrook finished 13th in the 100 backstroke by recording a time of 1:07.04 at the Class S meet. Lee also finished in 18th place for the 500 freestyle after hitting the finish line with a time of 5:54.08 for the Wildcats.

OL-VR-OS also saw two of its relays participate in last week’s state meet. The 200 medley relay featuring Lee, Old Lyme junior Sydney Doboe, Rothrock, and Old Lyme freshman Rose Dimmock finished in 15th place with a time of 2:10.35. The 400 freestyle relay of Dimmock, Old Saybrook freshman Sasha Dziebel, Lee, and Rothrock came in 16th place by recording a time of 4:27.26.

The Wildcats’ swimmers had qualified for the state finals by virtue of their performances in the Class S State Qualifying meet hosted at the Cheshire Community Pool on Nov. 12. Every swimmer who placed in the top 24 of an event advanced to the championship.

Rothrock finished 10th in the 200 IM (2:25.17) and took 11th place the 100 butterfly (1:04.44) for the Wildcats at the state qualifier. Lee finished 12th in the 100 backstroke (1:06.95) and also claimed 17th place in the 500 freestyle (5:53.96). Dimmock finished 30th in the 200 IM (2:44.69) for OL-VR-OS.

The Wildcats’ 200 medley relay of Lee, Doboe, Rothrock, and Dimmock finished in 15th place (2:10.64) at the Class S Qualifying meet. The 400 freestyle relay of Dimmock, Dziebel, Lee, and Rothrock finished in 16th place (4:28.63).
