Hornets’ Girls’ Swim Squad Competes in Class S Qualifier

The Branford girls’ swimming and diving team was represented by several competitors when the Class S State Qualifying meet recently took place. The meet was hosted at the Cheshire Community Pool on Nov. 12.

Branford’s 200 medley relay of senior Emma Hall, junior Isabella Armellino, sophomore Erin Newlan, and sophomore Kylie Acquarulo-Savastano finished in 19th place by recording a time of 2:14.85 at the Class S Qualifying. The Hornets’ 400 freestyle relay featuring Acquarulo-Savastano, freshman Abigail Talalas, Newlan, and Armellino also finished 19th with a time 4:33.32.

Hall also finished 27th in the 100 backstroke by swimming a time of 1:13.65 in the event for Branford in the state qualifier. Hall additionally finished 34th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:06.48.

Armellino finished 32nd in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:16.50 and also placed 35th for the 100 breaststroke by finishing with a mark of 1:28.63 for the Hornets. Acquarulo-Savastano came in 33th place for the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:15.44 at the qualifying meet. Newlan swam a time of 1:20.03 in the 100 butterfly to finish in 36th place for the event.
