Nighthawks’ Girls’ Volleyball, Soccer Teams Take Defeats in States; Rapuano Places 8th at Class M Diving Championship

Girls’ Volleyball

The North Haven girls’ volleyball team hosted E.O. Smith for a first-round matchup in the Class L State Tournament last week. North Haven took a 3-2 defeat in the contest to finish its season with an overall record of 12-9.

On Nov. 8, the 10th-seeded Nighthawks played a home match versus No. 23 seed E.O. Smith in the first round of the Class L draw. The Panthers won a 3-2 decision over North Haven behind set scores of 25-23, 17-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-10.

Senior Sarah Herrera dished out 32 assists to go with 8 digs, 5 aces, and 1 kill for North Haven against E.O. Smith. Senior Kayla Balisciano had 12 kills with 4 digs and 1 ace for the Nighthawks. Senior Sophie Vauiso posted 8 kills with 2 digs and 1 block in the contest. Junior Maren Hill finished the match with 8 kills with 3 blocks, 3 digs, and 1 ace.

Girls’ Soccer

The North Haven girls’ soccer team’s season came to a close with a first-round loss to Branford in the Class L State Tournament last week. On Nov. 8, the Nighthawks faced Branford on the road in the opening round of the Class L bracket and lost the Hornets by the final score of 6-0. North Haven finished the 2022 campaign with an overall record of 7-10.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

Sophomore Daniella Rapuano represented the North Haven girls’ swimming and diving team by competing at the Class M Diving State Championship last week. The Class M diving meet was hosted at Middletown High School on Nov. 10.

Rapuano finished in eighth place for the Nighthawks at the Class M Diving State Championship. Rapuano posted a score of 316.80 points her 11-dive performance on her way to claiming eighth place among the 22 divers who qualified for the meet. Junior Meghan DeRubeis also qualified for the meet on behalf of North Haven.

The points that Rapuano scored in the diving will carry over for the Nighthawks when they compete in swimming portion of the Class M State Championship this week. Following the Class M meet, the State Open Championship will take place at Yale University on Saturday, Nov. 19 at noon.
