Old Saybrook Field Hockey, Girls’ Soccer Take Defeats in State Tournament

Field Hockey

The Old Saybrook field hockey team was eliminated from the Class S State Tournament after dropping a 1-0 decision versus Stafford in a first-round game last week. No. 7 seed Old Saybrook hosted No. 10 Stafford in the first round of the Class S tourney and lost to the Bulldogs by a 1-0 score in the matchup. The Rams completed the 2022 fall season with an overall record of 12-6-1, highlighted by a run to the championship game of the Shoreline Conference Tournament.

Girls’ Soccer

The Old Saybrook girls’ soccer team took a loss to Coginchaug in the first round of the Class S State Tournament last week. On Nov. 8, the Rams traveled to Durham to face No. 10 seed Coginchaug for a first-round states game and lost a 3-0 decision against the Blue Devils. Old Saybrook finished with an overall record of 7-10-3 for a season that saw the Rams advance to the Shoreline Conference final.

Football

The Old Saybrook-Westbrook football (OS-W) team hit the road to square off against the Windsor Locks-Suffield-East Granby (WL-S-EG) co-op squad for a divisional game on Nov. 10. The Rams took a 45-6 loss to the Raiders at Windsor Locks High School to move to 0-8 overall with a record of 0-5 in the Pequot Conference Sassacus Division this year. WL-S-EG improved to 3-5 with the win.

OS-W is facing divisional opponent Valley Regional-Old Lyme (7-1, 4-1) on the road for its next game this week. After that, the Rams will conclude the season by playing a divisional contest versus Morgan in the rivals’ annual Thanksgiving Week game. The contest takes place on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. at Old Saybrook High School.
