Knights Beat H-K in OT Before Losing in States; Boys’ Soccer Loses First-Round Game to Old Saybrook

The Westbrook-Old Lyme (W-OL) field hockey team defeated Haddam-Killingworth in its opening game of the Class S State Tournament before taking a loss against Immaculate in its next contest last week. The Knights finished their season with an overall record of 9-8-1.
On Nov. 7, 13th-seeded Knights hosted No. 20 seed H-K for a qualifying-round game in the Class S State Tournament. W-OL edged out the Cougars by a 1-0 final in overtime at Westbrook High School to advance to the next round of the draw.
Senior Myan Nguyen scored 1:46 into the OT period to lift the Knights to their states victory over H-K. Fellow senior Caroline Dias had the assist on the goal. Junior goalie Abby Demers made 1 saves in net to get the shutout for W-OL.
The next day, the Knights traveled to Danbury to play No. 4 seed Immaculate in the first round of the Class S bracket. W-OL took a 7-0 defeat versus the Mustangs in the game and was eliminated from the tournament with the loss.
Boys’ Soccer
The Westbrook boys’ soccer team saw its season come to a close with a first-round loss to Old Saybrook in the Class S State Tournament last week. On Nov. 7, No. 28 seed Westbrook was on the road to face the 5th-seeded Rams and lost to Old Saybrook by the final score of 3-0 at Old Saybrook High School. The Knights finished the 2022 campaign with an overall record of 5-9-3.
