Junior Melania Korenovky hit the trails to run in the Class MM State Championship on behalf of the East Haven girls’ cross country program last week. Korenovsky finished in 75th place for the Yellowjackets when the Class MM state meet took place at Wickham Park in Manchester on Oct. 20.
Korenovsky crossed the finish line with a time of 25:08 on her way to placing 75th at the Class MM State Championship. Korenovsky was competing among a pack of 131 runners in states. Guilford finished in first place as a team at the meet.
Korenvosky had recently finished in 67th place with a time of 23:57.7 in the Southern Connecticut Conference Championship at East Shore Park in New Haven on Oct. 19. Prior to that, Korenovksy began her postseason run by competing for the Easties at the SCC Divisional Championships at the Guilford Fairgrounds on Sept. 29. Korenovsky ran a time of 24:28.10 to finish in 13th place for the Oronoque Division and 38th overall for the divisional meet.
Girls’ Volleyball
The East Haven girls’ volleyball team finished its regular season by taking two defeats during the final week of play. The Yellowjackets took a loss to Sacred Heart Academy before losing to North Branford to finish the year with an overall record of 4-15.
In its first match of the week, East Haven took a 3-2 road loss versus Sacred Heart Academy (SHA) on Oct. 24. SHA won the contest with set scores of 19-25, 25-17, 25-11, 22-25, 15-8.
Senior Autumn Clancy recorded 10 digs and also served up 10 aces for the Yellowjackets in the match. Senior Alice Stettinger had 11 kills and 5 aces for East Haven. Fellow senior Nicole SanGiovanni handed out 25 assists and also had 2 aces in the five-set contest.
Then on Oct. 27, the Yellowjackets hosted North Branford for their regular-season finale at East Haven High School. The Thunderbirds took the match by the final tally of 25-10, 25-16, 25-18.
Girls’ Soccer
The East Haven girls’ soccer team traveled to West Haven to face the Blue Devils for their final game of the 2022 regular season on Oct. 26. The Yellowjackets took a 3-1 loss in the matchup at West Haven High School to finish their regular season with an overall record of 2-14.
Junior Gianna Castellano scored the goal for the Easties in last week’s game against West Haven. Sophomore Dalexa Pereanez had the assist on the goal.
Football
The East Haven football team was on the bye week last week. The next game for the Yellowjackets will be a road contest against Wilbur Cross on Friday, Nov. 4. The game kicks off at 6 p.m. at Bowen Field in New Haven. East Haven enters the matchup with an overall record of 2-4 and a mark of 1-2 in its SCC Tier 3 games. Wilbur Cross has an overall record of 1-6 and is 0-6 in its SCC Tier 2 contests.
After playing Wilbur Cross, East Haven has a home game against Jonathan Law on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. The Yellowjackets will then host Guilford at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, followed by their annual Thanksgiving game versus Branford on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. at Branford High School.
