The Valley Regional girls’ volleyball team traveled to Clinton to take on Morgan for its lone matchup of the week last week. The Warriors rallied for a five-set victory over the Huskies to level their record at 7-7 on the year.
Valley lost the first two sets against Morgan, but came back to claim a 3-2 win versus the Huskies in a road match on Oct. 20. The Warriors edged out Morgan by the final tally of 22-25, 8-25, 25-19, 25-17, 15-5 in the contest.
Senior Sophie Scrivo had a big match by dishing out 29 assists to go with 13 digs, 4 kills, and 1 blocks for the Warriors in the victory. Senior Kaia Karcich recorded 25 digs with 4 aces, while fellow senior Audrey Board had 22 kills and 3 blocks for Valley Regional.
Junior Natalia Novak posted 23 digs to go with 3 kills and 2 aces in the win. Junior Olivia Cunningham had 5 kills and 2 blocks on the night.
Valley is hosting North Branford for a matchup on Friday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. After that, the Warriors are on the road to face Coginchaug on Monday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m.
Boys’ Soccer
The Valley Regional boys’ soccer team picked up a few points by notching a win and a tie between its three games last week. The Warriors earned a shutout victory versus Westbrook to go with a draw against Old Lyme and a loss to Canton in recent action, putting the team’s record at 4-8-1 on the season.
On Oct. 11, Valley hosted Old Lyme and battled the Wildcats to a 4-4 tie. Two days later, the Warriors faced Westbrook at home and blanked Knights by a 3-0 final at Valley Regional High School. Valley finished off the week by taking a 7-0 loss against Canton in a non-conference road game on Oct. 15.
Valley Regional is playing a home game against Cromwell on Thursday, Oct. 20. One week later, the Warriors are hosting Cromwell for their regular-season finale at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27.
Field Hockey
The Valley Regional field hockey team earned a tie and took two defeats between its three games last week and is now 6-4-2 on the season. The Warriors took losses against Old Saybrook and North Branford before playing East Lyme to a draw in recent action.
On Oct. 11, Valley took a 1-0 defeat to Old Saybrook in a road game. Then on Oct. 14, the Warriors hosted North Branford and took a 2-0 loss versus the Thunderbirds at Valley Regional High School. The next day, Valley played a non-conference game at East Lyme and battled the Vikings to a 0-0 tie in the contest.
Valley Regional is hosting the Somers-Rockville co-op squad for a contest on Friday, Oct. 21 at 3:45 p.m. The Warriors will then face New Fairfield at home on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m.
Football
The Valley Regional-Old Lyme (VR-OL) football team was on the bye week last week. The Warriors will take their unblemished record into their divisional contest against Capital-Achievement on Thursday, Oct. 20. The game kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Annie Fisher School in Hartford. VR-OL has an overall record of 4-0 and is 3-0 in the Pequot Conference Sassacus Division this year. Capital-Achievement is 3-2 overall with a record of 3-1 in the division.
