East Haven Volleyball Notches Win Over Career; Boys’ Soccer Takes a Couple of Losses
Girls’ Volleyball
The East Haven girls’ volleyball team earned its third win of the season when the Yellowjackets posted a home victory over Career in last week’s action. East Haven also took losses to Jonathan Law and Woodland for an overall record of 3-12 on the year.
In its first match of the week, East Haven took a 3-0 defeat versus Jonathan Law in a road match on Oct. 10. The Eagles swept the contest with scores of 25-17, 25-14, 25-18.
Senior Autumn Clancy recorded 9 digs and 3 kills for the Yellowjackets in their matchup with Jonathan Law. Fellow senior Alice Stettinger finished the match with 6 kills for East Haven. Freshman Ava Panico had 3 digs in the contest
On Oct. 12, the Yellowjackets hosted Woodland for a non-conference match and took a 3-0 defeat at East Haven High School. Woodland won the contest with set scores of 25-9, 25-13, 25-14.
Clancy recorded 6 digs for East Haven in the match. Stettinger finished with 3 kills for the Yellowjackets.
Three days later, the Easties returned to their home floor to take on Career and posted a 3-0 victory over the Panthers. East Haven swept the matchup by the final tally of 25-15, 25-14, 25-19.
Senior Nicole SanGiovanni handed out 18 assists to help the Easties defeat Career. Freshman Eve Backhaus finished with match with 8 aces and 1 dig, while sophomore Mia Abely posted 5 kills for the Yellowjackets.
East Haven has two matches left on its regular-season schedule. The Yellowjackets are hosting Hillhouse on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 5:15 p.m. and then will then play a road match against Sacred Heart Academy on Monday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m.
Boys’ Soccer
The East Haven boys’ soccer team took two defeats last week to move to 2-9 for the 2022 season. The Yellowjackets took a loss to Sheehan before dropping a contest against Jonathan Law in recent action.
East Haven hosted Sheehan on Oct. 11 and lost to the Titans by the final score of 2-0. Then on Oct. 14, the Yellowjackets traveled to Milford to face Jonathan Law and took a 3-1 defeat to the Lawmen in the contest.
East Haven is hosting Foran on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 10:30 a.m. and then will then play a home game versus Career-Hillhouse on Monday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. After that, the Yellowjackets will be on the road to play Platt Tech in their regular-season finale on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 3:45 p.m.
Girls’ Cross Country
Junior Melania Korenovsky represented the East Haven girls’ cross country program when she competed against opponents from three local teams in a meet at the Surf Club in Madison last week. Korenovsky hit the trails alongside runners from Hand, Shelton, and West Haven and finished in 10th place for the race by crossing the finish line with a time of 24 minutes and 16 seconds in the meet on Oct. 11.
Korenovsky will next be competing on behalf of the Yellowjackets at the SCC Championship meet that is taking place this week.
Girls’ Swimming and Diving
The East Haven-Cross-Hillhouse (EH-C-H) girls’ swimming and diving team hit the water to compete against Lyman Hall for a road meet last week. The Yellowjackets took an 85-51 defeat to Lyman Hall in the contest at Sheehan High School on Oct. 13.
Senior Julia Rosado finished first in the 100 breaststroke for EH-C-H at last week’s meet. Rosado swam a time of 1:18.32 on her way to placing first for the event.
EH-C-H has a road meet against Sheehan for its regular-season final this week. The meet gets underway at 5:30 p.m. at Sheehan High School on Thursday, Oct. 20.
Football
The East Haven football team was on the bye week last week. The Yellowjackets will be back in action to play a road game versus SCC Tier 3 opponent Lyman Hall on Friday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. East Haven enters the game with an overall record of 2-3 to go with a mark of 1-1 in the division this year. Lyman Hall is 1-4 overall and has a record of 0-3 in its SCC Tier 3 games.
