Westbrook Girls’ Soccer Picks Up Some Points; Field Hockey Grabs Win Against Somers-Rockville

Girls’ Soccer

The Westbrook girls’ soccer team had a nice week on the field that saw the Knights pick up a few points by notching a win and a tie. The Knights claimed a win over Amistad, earned a draw versus North Branford/Hale-Ray, and then took a loss to Portland in last week’s contests, moving the team’s overall record to 3-7-1 on the year.

Westbrook kicked off last week by posting a 7-0 shutout at Amistad on Oct. 3. Two days later, the Knights played a road game against the North Branford/Hale-Ray co-op team and battled the Thunderbirds to a 2-2 tie at North Branford High School. Westbrook finished the week by taking a 3-1 defeat to Portland in a home game on Oct. 6.

Westbrook is hosting the Harding-Bassick co-op squad for a game on Friday, Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m. The Knights will then face Valley Regional at home on Monday, Oct. 17 at 3:45 p.m., followed by a home game against Old Lyme at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Boys’ Soccer

The Westbrook girls’ soccer team took defeats in its two games last week to move to 2-6-2 on the year. Westbrook lost a contest against Harding and took a loss to Portland in its last two matches.

On Oct. 3, the Knights played a home game versus Harding and took a 3-2 defeat in the matchup. Three days later, Westbrook hit the road to take on Portland and dropped a 4-0 decision versus the Highlanders.

Westbrook is facing Valley Regional on the road on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 3:45 p.m. After that, the Knights will return to the road to take on Old Lyme at 3:45 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17.

Field Hockey

The Westbrook-Old Lyme (W-OL) co-op field hockey team played three road games last week and came away from the slate with one victory to put its overall record at 3-5-2 for the 2022 season. The Knights took losses to Old Saybrook and Valley Regional to go along with a win against Somers-Rockville in recent action.

On Oct. 3, W-OL played a road game against Old Saybrook and dropped a 3-2 decision to the Rams. Senior Myan Nguyen and junior Emma Bransfield both scored a goal for the Knights in the game. Seniors Delaney Belcourt handed out a pair of assists.

The following day, the Knights were back on the road to face the Somers-Rockville co-op squad and notched a 4-1 win in the contest. Bransfield netted 2 goals to go with 1 assist to lead W-OL to the victory. Nguyen and senior Caroline Dias both scored 1 goal. Senior Halley Pierson and freshman Brooke Ouelette each had 1 assist to help the Knights get the win.

Then on Oct. 6, W-OL traveled to Deep River to face Valley Regional and lost to the Warriors by a 1-0 score. Junior Abby Demers made 6 saves for the Knights.

The Knights are hosting Morgan for a Shoreline Conference contest on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. W-OL will then play three-straight non-conference games by facing Killingly on the road on Saturday, Oct. 15 at noon; Waterford at home on Monday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m.; and Canton on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 4:30 p.m.
