Westbrook Boys’ Soccer Defeats Hale-Ray, Ties H-K; Girls’ Soccer Posts 7-0 Shutout Over Harding-Bassick
Boys’ Soccer
The Westbrook boys’ soccer team secured its second win of the year when the Knights claimed a 4-1 road victory versus Hale-Ray last week. Westbrook earned a tie with Haddam-Killingworth to put its overall record at 2-4-2 on the season.
Westbrook kicked off its week by claiming a 4-1 road win at Hale-Ray on Sept. 27. Junior John Heringer netted 2 goals for the Knights in the victory. Junior Doug Perrone-Gray and freshman Andre DeSousa both scored 1 goal to help Westbrook prevail. Senior goalie Ryan Engels made 10 saves in net for Head Coach Derek Hanssen’s squad.
Three days later, the Knights were on the road to face Haddam-Killingworth. Westbrook picked up a point by battling the Cougars to a 0-0 tie in the contest.
Westbrook is playing a road game against Portland on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 3:45 p.m. The Knights will then host Hale-Ray on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 3:45 p.m.
Girls’ Soccer
The Westbrook girls’ soccer team posted a shutout victory over the Harding-Bassick co-op team for its second win of the season last week. The Knights also took losses to Lyman Memorial and Haddam-Killingworth to move to 1-6 for the campaign.
On Sept. 26, Westbrook took a 5-0 home loss against Lyman Memorial in a home game. Two days later, the Knights traveled to Bridgeport to face Harding-Bassick and won the contest by a 7-0 score. Then on Sept. 30, Westbrook played a home game versus Haddam-Killingworth and took a 5-0 defeat to the Cougars.
Westbrook is hosting Portland for a game on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 3:45 p.m. The Knights will go on to face Amistad at home on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 3:45 p.m.
Field Hockey
The Westbrook-Old Lyme (W-OL) co-op field hockey team hosted Shoreline Conference rival North Branford for its lone matchup last week. The Knights took a 3-1 defeat to the Thunderbirds to move to 2-3-2 on the season.
Freshman Brooke Ouelette scored the goal for the Knights in their loss against North Branford. Senior Halley Pierson had the assist on the goal. Junior goalkeeper Abby Demers made 8 saves in net for W-OL.
W-OL is on the road to face Valley Regional on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 3:45 p.m. After that, the Knights are hosting Haddam-Killingworth at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
