Morgan Girls’ Soccer Wins 1-0 Decision Against Old Saybrook; Girls’ Volleyball Picks Up a Pair of Victories

Girls’ Soccer

The Morgan girls’ soccer team was on the road to face Shoreline Conference rival Old Saybrook in its lone game on the pitch last week. The Huskies earned a 1-0 win versus the Rams at Old Saybrook High School to boost their record to 5-1-1 on the season.

Junior Maeve Madura socred the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute to lift Morgan to its victory over Old Saybrook. Senior Emily Smith had the assist on the goal. Junior goalkeeper Samantha Way made 2 saves to get the shutout in net for Head Coach Steve Sullivan’s club.

Morgan is playing a road game against East Lyme on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. The Huskies will go on to host Portland on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.

Boys’ Soccer

The Morgan boys’ soccer team hit the road to play a trio of away games in last week’s action. The Huskies came away from their road trip with two victories after posting shutouts over Montville and Valley Regional to go with a loss against Norwich Free Academy, improving the team’s record to 7-1 on the year.

Morgan began its week by claiming a 1-0 road victory over Montville on Sept. 26. Senior Sebastian Kadlof scored the lone goal of the game on an assist by freshman Jonny Gutierrez in the 69th minute of the contest. Freshman Liam Totten played net for the Huskies and made 5 saves to get the shutout.

Two days later, Morgan traveled to Deep River to face Valley Regional and blanked the Warriors by an 8-0 score. Gutierrez scored 3 goals for a hat trick and also had 2 assists in the victory. Freshman Jeremy Medranda scored 2 goals to go with 3 assists, while Kadlof had 1 goal with 2 assists for the Huskies.

Senior Nick Boudreau had a goal and an assist for Morgan in the win. Senior Kaiky Cezer also scored a goal for the Huskies. Totten and junior Jack Bosquet both saw time in net for Morgan with each keeper making 1 save.

The Huskies finished off their week by taking a 3-2 defeat against Norwich Free Academy in a road game on Sept. 30. Kadlof scored an unassisted goal for Morgan in the first half. Kadlof went on to assist Gutierrez for a goal during the second half of the contest. Totten and Bousquet combined to make 9 saves in goal.

Morgan is hosting East Lyme for a game at the Indian River Complex on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. The Huskies will then face Portland on the road on Monday, Oct. 10 at 3:45 p.m.

Girls’ Volleyball

The Morgan girls’ volleyball team played three matches last week and came away with two victories to boost their record at 3-6 for the season. The Huskies notched shutouts versus Amistad and Cromwell before taking a loss to Haddam-Killingworth in last week’s matchups.

Morgan began recent action by posting a 3-0 shutout over Amistad in a home match on Sept. 27. The very next day, the Huskies hit the road to face Cromwell and blanked the Panthers a 3-0 score. Morgan finished the week by taking a 3-2 defeat to Haddam-Killingworth in a home match on Sept. 30.

Morgan is hosting Valley Regional for a contest on Monday, Oct. 10 at 5:30 p.m.

Field Hockey

The Morgan field hockey team hosted Old Saybrook for its only matchup on last week’s schedule. The Huskies took a 3-0 loss against the Rams at the Indian River Complex to move to 1-5-0-1 for the 2022 season.

Morgan is playing a home game against Haddam-Killingworth on Friday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. The Huskies will then face North Branford on the road at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10.

Football

The Morgan football team hosted divisional opponent Capital-Achievement for a game at the Peters Complex on Sept. 30. The Huskies took a 35-28 defeat in the contest and are now 1-3 overall with a record of 1-3 in the Pequot Conference Sassacus Division this season.

Morgan is playing a home game versus Rockville (2-1) on Friday, Oct. 7. The contest kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at the Peters Complex.
