The Old Saybrook boys’ soccer team improved its record to 6-0 on the season after netting victories over a trio of Shoreline Conference opponents last week. The Rams posted wins versus Old Lyme, Westbrook, and Valley Regional to maintain their unblemished record for the 2022 campaign.

Old Saybrook kicked off last week’s action by earning a 3-0 home victory against Old Lyme on Sept. 20. Junior Kevin DeCapua opened the game with a quick score just 35 seconds into the contest, staking the Rams to a 1-0 halftime advantage. Senior Bradley Kulmann scored a goal off an assist from sophomore Liam Roberts in the second half to make it 2-0. Senior Cam DeAngelo finished off the victory by converting a penalty kick for a 3-0 lead. Junior London Sweeney made 5 saves to get the shutout in net.

Then on Sept. 23, the Rams were on the road to face Westbrook and posted a 3-0 shutout over the Knights. DeCapua scored from DeAngelo in the opening stanza to give Old Saybrook a 1-0 lead at intermission. DeAngelo scored from Kulmann in the second half, after which DeCapua netted his second goal of the game to make the score 3-0. Sweeney joined forces with sophomore Brayden Hagelston and freshman Greyson Richards for the shutout in goal.

In their last game of the week, the Rams hosted Valley Regional and claimed an 11-0 win versus the Warriors in a Saturday afternoon matchup at Old Saybrook High School.

Old Saybrook’s next game is a road contest against Morgan on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The game takes place at 3:45 p.m. at the Indian River Complex on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

The Old Saybrook girls’ soccer squad took the pitch to play three contests last week. The Rams earned a tie versus Old Lyme before defeating Westbrook and then losing to Norwich Free Academy to move to 1-1-2 on the season.

Old Saybrook began the week by playing Old Lyme to a 1-1 tie in a road game on Sept. 19. Sophomore Breleigh Cooke scored the Rams’ goal on an assist by senior Allie Lamotte, putting the ball over the head of the Old Lyme goalkeeper from just outside the 18-yard box.

Then on Sept. 22, Old Saybrook hosted Westbrook and edged out the Knights by the score of 2-1. Senior Elizabeth Ryan and Cooke scored Old Saybrook’s goals in the game. Both scores came off of through-ball assists from Lamotte.

The Rams finished off their week by taking a 1-0 loss at Norwich Free Academy in non-conference action on Sept. 24.

The Rams are playing a home game against Morgan on Friday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. After that, Old Saybrook has a road game versus St. Bernard on Monday, Oct. 3 at 3:45 p.m. and will then face Montville on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.

The Old Saybrook field hockey team had three opponents on its schedule for last week’s action. The Rams came away from the stretch with a win, a loss, and a draw, putting the team’s record at 4-2-1 on the season.

On Sept. 19, Old Saybrook traveled to Deep River to face Valley Regional and took a 2-0 defeat to the Warriors. Then on Sept. 23, the Rams hosted Haddam-Killingworth and blanked the Cougars by a 1-0 score at Old Saybrook High School.

Amelia Sigersmith scored the lone goal of the game when Old Saybrook defeated H-K. Kendall Dobratz had the assist on the goal.

Brianna Berdiales started in net and made 7 saves for the Rams. Kate Molesky took over in goal in the second half and had 4 saves to help secure the victory.

The very next day, Old Saybrook was on the road to face East Lyme and played the Vikings to a 0-0 tie in the non-conference contest. Berdiales played goal in the first half and made 5 saves. Molesky came in to play the second half and had 1 save. Berdiales returned to the goal for overtime and came up with 2 more saves as the game ended in a scoreless stalemate.

Old Saybrook is playing a road game versus Morgan at the Indian River Complex on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m. After that, the Rams are hosting the Westbrook-Old Lyme co-op squad on Monday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m.

The Old Saybrook boys’ cross country team finished in fourth place when the Rams competed at the Going to the Sun Invitational on Sept. 21. The meet took place at Coginchaug High School in Durham.

Junior Parker Cook finished in second place overall for the Rams at the Run to the Sun Invitational. Junior Ngwang Choegyal finished in 17th place, and senior Logan Worman came in 18th place for Old Saybrook. Sophomore Everett Miller finished in 31st place, while sophomore Jack Lowry finished 47th on behalf of the Rams.

The Old Saybrook girls’ cross country squad posted a fourth-place performance at the Going to the Sun Invitational at Coginchaug High School. The invitational was held on Sept. 21 in Durham.

Senior Catherine Minegar led the way for Old Saybrook by claiming ninth place in the Run to the Sun Invitational. Junior Carlina Castro took 14th place for the Rams, while senior Vicki Carrica finished in 19th place in the race. Sophomore Cat Pamment finished in 37th place, and freshman Cassie Garcia came in 42nd place for Head Coach Pete Capezzone’s team.

The Old Saybrook-Westbrook (OS-W) football team hosted Capital-Achievement for a Pequot Conference Sassacus Division game on Sept. 24. The Rams took a 48-19 defeat in the Saturday night matchup at Old Saybrook High School to move to 0-3 overall with a record of 0-3 in the division.

OS-W’s next game is a divisional duel versus Coginchaug/Hale-Ray/East Hampton (0-3, 0-2) on Saturday, Oct. 1. The contest kicks off at 1 p.m. at Coginchaug High School.
