H-K Field Hockey Defeats Valley in Season Opener; Boys’ Soccer Edges Out Coginchaug
Field Hockey
The Haddam-Killingworth field hockey team was on the road to face Valley Regional for its first game of the fall campaign last week. On Sept. 9, the Cougars faced Valley in Deep River and posted a 3-1 win over the Warriors in the matchup.
H-K is hitting the field with a new head coach in Dee Stephan this season. The Cougars finished with a record of 4-10-1-1 for the 2021 campaign.
Boys’ Soccer
The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ soccer squad traveled to Durham to take on Coginchaug in its first game of the season last week. H-K edged out the Blue Devils by a 2-1 final in the contest at Coginchaug High School on Sept. 10.
Michael Mead returns for another season as the Cougars’ head coach. H-K finished with an overall record of 7-10-1 while qualifying for Shorelines and states last fall.
Girls’ Soccer
The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ soccer team hosted Coginchaug for its 2022 season opener on Sept. 8. The Cougars lost a 3-1 decision versus the Blue Devils at H-K High School for an early record of 0-1.
The Cougars posted an overall record of 6-7-3 on their way to making the Class M State Tournament in 2021. Mike Shea is back for another year on the sidelines as H-K’s head coach.
Girls’ Volleyball
The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ volleyball team began the fall season by playing a road match against Lyman Memorial on Sept. 9. The Cougars took a 3-1 loss to Lyman Memorial in their season opener for an 0-1 start to the campaign.
H-K is coming off of a 2021 season that saw the team win its second-straight Shoreline Conference title and then advance to the Class M state quarterfinals. Head Coach Robin Callender’s squad finished the year with an overall record of 19-5.
