The North Branford field hockey team played a pair of games to start off the 2022 campaign last week. The Thunderbirds claimed a shutout victory versus Westbrook-Old Lyme and then defeated Sacred Heart Academy to open the year with a record of 2-0.
North Branford notched a 3-0 home win over the Westbrook-Old Lyme co-op squad in its season opener on Sept. 8. Junior Sophia Toto scored 2 goals for the T-Birds in the victory. Junior Keana Criscuolo had 1 goal with 1 assist, and junior Téa Ferrucci chipped in with an assist for North Branford.
Two days later, the T-Birds faced Sacred Heart Academy on the road and earned 3-2 victory in the contest. Toto netted 2 goals for North Branford in the win. Sophomore Alivia Schmidt scored 1 goal to go with 1 assist. Criscuolo and junior Lindsey Onofrio both had 1 assist for the Thunderbirds.
North Branford is coming off of a season that saw the team win its fifth-straight Shoreline Conference title and then claim the Class S state championship last fall. Head Coach Babby Nuhn’s club finished the year with an overall record of 18-2-2.
Girls’ Volleyball
The North Branford girls’ volleyball squad began the fall season by playing a pair of home matches last week. The T-Birds gained a split of set by taking a defeat against Hale-Ray and then posting a win over Lyman Hall in the two matchups.
On Sept. 8, North Branford hosted Hale-Ray for its season opener and lost to the Noises by a 3-0 score. The following day, the Thunderbirds played a home match versus Lyman Hall and triumphed by the final score of 3-1.
Tori Ramada is back for another season as the head coach of North Branford volleyball. The T-Birds posted an overall record of 6-14 for the 2021 campaign.
Girls’ Soccer
The North Branford/Hale-Ray co-op girls’ soccer team hosted Valley Regional for its season opener on Sept. 8. The Thunderbirds took a 3-0 defeat versus Valley Regional in the game at North Branford High School.
This year marks the first season that North Branford and Hale-Ray are joining forces to form a co-op squad. Ryan Smith is serving as the head coach of the team.
Boys’ Soccer
The North Branford boys’ soccer team was on the road to face Valley Regional for its first game of the season last week. The T-Birds took a 13-1 loss to the Warriors in the matchup at Valley Regional High School on Sept. 9. Dwight Boatman returns as North Branford’s head coach this season.
