Old Saybrook Field Hockey, Boys’ Soccer Begin Seasons with Wins

Field Hockey

The Old Saybrook field hockey team claimed a victory over Morgan in its first game of the 2022 season last week. The Rams hosted Morgan at Old Saybrook High School on Sept. 8 and defeated the Huskies by the score of 4-1 for an early record of 1-0.

Junior Amelia Sigersmith and freshman Kendall Dobratz both had 1 goal and 1 assist for Old Saybrook in its win versus Morgan. Senior Jessica Kidd and sophomore Ayla D’Anna each scored 1 goal, while sophomore Grace Desmond contributed 1 assist in the victory. Senior Kate Molesky and fellow senior Brianna Berdiales both saw time in goal with each keeper making 2 saves for Old Saybrook.

Nancy Gatta returns for another season as head coach of the Old Saybrook field hockey squad. Old Saybrook put together a strong 2021 campaign that saw the Rams finished with an overall mark of 12-6-1 while advancing to the Class S state quarterfinals.

Boys’ Soccer

The Old Saybrook boys’ soccer team began the 2022 campaign by taking on Portland in a home game on Sept. 9. The Rams notched a 4-1 win versus the Highlanders to start off the year with a record of 1-0.

Old Saybrook notched an undefeated record of 19-0-3 on its way to earning a share of the Shoreline Conference title and then winning its third-straight Class S state championship last year. Head Coach Steve Waters enters this season with 584 career victories, which is the most for any head coach in the history of Connecticut high school boys’ soccer.

Girls’ Soccer

The Old Saybrook girls’ soccer team played a road game versus Portland in its first contest of the fall campaign. The Rams were edged out by the Highlanders by a 2-1 score at Portland High School on Sept. 8.

Steve Roslonek is back for his second year as Old Saybrook’s head coach. Last year, the Rams posted an overall record of 8-6-6 while advancing to the quarterfinals of the Class S State Tournament.

Football

The Old Saybrook-Westbrook (OS-W) football team hosted Haddam-Killingworth for its opening game of the 2022 season last weekend. The Rams took a 30-0 defeat versus the Cougars in a Pequot Conference Sassacus Division matchup at Old Saybrook High School on Sept. 10. Clay Hillyer begins his first campaign as the Rams’ head coach this year.

OS-W is facing divisional opponent North Branford on the road on Friday, Sept. 16. The game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at North Branford High School.
