Knights’ Field Hockey Defeats Killingly for First Victory; Soccer Squads Take Losses

Field Hockey

The Westbrook-Old Lyme (W-OL) field hockey team began the 2022 season by playing a pair of games last week. The Knights gained a split of the set by taking a loss to North Branford and then defeating Killingly for a 1-1 start to the year.

W-OL dropped a 3-0 decision at North Branford in its season opener on Sept. 8. Two days later, the Knights hosted Killingly and won the contest by a 6-1 score.

Janet Dickey returns for another season as head coach of the W-OL field hockey program. The Knights finished with an overall record of 4-13 for the 2021 campaign.

Boys’ Soccer

The Westbrook boys’ soccer squad hosted Morgan for its first game of the fall season last week. The Knights squared off against the Huskies at Westbrook High School on Sept. 9 and took a 5-0 defeat in the matchup.

Derek Hanssen is back for another campaign as Westbrook’s head coach. The Knights posted an overall record of 4-10-2 last season.

Girls’ Soccer

The Westbrook girls’ soccer team started off the 2022 season with a road game versus Morgan on Sept. 9. Westbrook took a 9-0 loss to the Huskies at the Indian River Complex for an early record of 0-1.

The Knights are welcoming a new head coach to the sidelines in Kendra Richards this season. Westbrook recorded an overall mark of 6-10 last year.
