Post 79 Seniors Eliminated from States

The Madison Senior American Legion 19-U baseball team saw its 2022 season come to a close with a loss to Westport in the State Tournament last week. Post 79 took a 4-3 home loss against Westport at Town Campus Field on July 19 and was eliminated from states with the defeat. Madison finished with an overall record of 12-9 for the summer campaign.

Competing in the Southern Division portion of the double-elimination bracket, Madison had opened up the State Tournament by taking a 10-5 loss versus Westport in a home game on July 16. Needing to win to stay alive, Post 79 notched a 7-3 home victory over Glastonbury at Town Campus Field the following day to move on to face Westport again. Westport defeated Madison by a 4-3 score in the rematch to advance to play Stamford in the next round, taking a 10-7 loss in the contest.

This year marked the Madison Legion team’s first season with Jason Vitale as its head coach. Post 79 went 11-7 during the regular season to finish in third place in the Zone 2 standings on its way to qualifying for the State Tournament.
