07/28/2022 12:19 PMOn the heels of winning district and section titles, the Madison 10-U softball team competed in the state’s Final Four in Windsor last week and advanced to the championship of the tournament. Madison took a loss to Wallingford in the title game as club’s exciting summer run came to a close.
Madison played Windsor in its first matchup of the Final Four, taking a 4-2 loss in the contest on July 20. Facing Milford in an elimination game the next day, Madison notched a 15-6 victory to keep its tournament hopes going. Madison went on to defeat Windsor by a 7-3 score in another elimination game the day after that.
Madison’s win versus Windsor advanced to the team to take on Wallingford for state title. Madison needed to twice defeat Wallingford, which had won both of its prior games in the tournament, in order to claim the championship. On July 23, Madison took a 4-1 defeat to Wallingford and was eliminated from the Final Four with the loss.
The Madison 10-U All-Stars had reached Connecticut’s Final Four by virtue of winning both the District 9 Tournament and the Section 3 Tournament this year. Madison won all 8 games that it played in districts, sweeping Middletown in the championship series by posting a 16-0 shutout and claiming then a 17-5 victory to take the title.
Madison went on to compete in the Section 3 Tournament. The team took a loss in its first contest of the draw, but came back to win a pair of elimination games, ultimately solidifying the championship with a 14-3 win against East Lyme.
The athletes on the Madison 10-U softball team are Riley Amenta, Eden Anderson, Isabella Fahy, Chase Ferraiolo, Delaney Hammel, Theodora Kontemerkos, Campbell Leckey, Allison Maynard Sadie McHugh, Ava Mirante, Annabella Nicoletti, Audrey Sears, and Emmalyn Wells. Sue Leckey is the team’s manager, and the assistant coaches are Mike Nicoletti and Keith Mirante.
