Police Incident Report for July 11 to 31


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, July 11

No arrests were made.

Thursday, July 12

No arrests were made.

• A 73 year-old Madison woman was issued a citation at 2:09 p.m. for making an unsafe movement from a stopped or standing position. She was operating a 2017 Honda Accord when she collided with a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox operated by a 53 year-old East Haddam woman. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene. No injuries were reported among the occupants of the two vehicles and no injuries were observed by investigating troopers.

Friday, July 13 to Sunday, July 15

No arrests were made.

Monday, July 16

No arrests were made.

• A 35 year-old East Lyme man was issued a citation at 7:54 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a 1997 Jeep Cherokee when he drove off the roadway and struck a rock ledge. No injuries were reported or observed.

Tuesday, June 17 to Wednesday, July 18

No arrests were made.

Thursday, July 19

No arrests were made.

• An 18 year-old Deep River man was issued a citation at 1:26 p.m. for distracted driving after the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta he was operating westbound on Main Street in Ivoryton at Falls River Drive veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. He was distracted when his cell phone began ringing. Both the vehicle and the utility pole sustained significant damage. The vehicle was towed. The driver was not injured.

Friday, July 20 to Saturday, July 21

Sunday, July 22

No arrests were made.

• A 30 year-old Westbrook woman was issued a citation at 4:32 p.m. for making an unsafe movement and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license. She was operating a 2002 Nissan Sentra southbound on Bokum Road, three-tenths of a mile south of Route 153. The cited driver attempted to negotiate a curve to the right, lost control of the vehicle, veered from the travel lane, struck an embankment, and rolled the vehicle over. The vehicle came to final rest on its wheels. The driver admitted to “going too fast” while entering the curve.

Saturday, July 28

• A 21 year-old man of Grandview Terrace was arrested at 11:57 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and improper parking following an investigation into an improperly parked black 2002 Ford Focus bearing Connecticut registration plate AA68673. He agreed to and failed a standardized field sobriety test.

Deep River

• A one-vehicle crash was investigated at 3:04 a.m. A 21 year-old Old Saybrook man was operating a 2000 Mazda B3000 when he fell asleep, traveled off the roadway, and struck a metal wire guardrail. Fifteen feet of guardrail was damaged. The vehicle sustained moderate damage to the front wheel well and was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported by the operator or observed by the investigating trooper. No enforcement action was indicated in the police press report.

Saturday, July 14 to Sunday, July 15

No arrests were made.

Monday, July 16

• A 35 year-old woman of Winthrop Road was arrested at 8:27 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct. In the same incident a 37 year-old man of Maple Avenue and a 36 year-old Torrington woman were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Troop F received a 911 call from a “hysterical woman.” She reported a disturbance at 177 Winthrop Road. Four troopers and one duty sergeant responded to the scene. The three people who were arrested were the primary aggressors in the incident. All three were processed on a $1,000 surety bond and issued a July 17 court date.

• A 23 year-old man of Village Street was arrested at 9:42 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct. The accused paused “panic and alarm” to a 70 year-old of unidentified gender. The accused was unable to post the $1,000 surety bond and was transported to Hartford Correctional Center and held until court arraignment.

Tuesday, June 17 to Saturday, July 28

Sunday, July 29

• A 34 year-old East Haddam man was arrested at 10:49 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest following a 911 emergency call regarding an incident on Village Street. He was processed on a $2,500 bond.

Monday, July 30 to Tuesday, July 31

No arrests were made.

Chester

Wednesday, July 11 to Friday, July 27

No arrests were made.

Saturday, July 28

No arrests were made.

• A 44 year-old Haddam man was issued a verbal warning at 8:14 p.m. for unsafe backing. He was operating a 2010 Ford F350 Super Duty pickup truck eastbound on Route 148 while looking for a parking space at Moravela’s Pizzeria. He could not find a space and backed into a 2003 Chevrolet Impala LS operated by a 57 year-old Essex woman. No injuries were reported by either driver or their passengers or observed by the investigating trooper.
