• A 20 year-old Cos Cob man was issued a verbal warning at 12:37 p.m. for failure to grant right of way after the 2007 Honda Accord S he was operating on Pleasant Street struck a 2014 Ford Focus operated by a 48 year-old East Haddam woman. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 22 year-old Ivoryton man was issued a citation at 2:34 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after the lost control of the 2004 Nissan Maxima S he was operating southbound on Rattling Valley Road near Route 154 and struck two trees in front of a residence. The operator stated that he was going home after dropping off his friend. The operator was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center in Westbrook for evaluation. The vehicle was towed.

Wednesday, May 31

• A larceny was investigated at Essex Savings Bank, located at 203 Middlesex Avenue, at 3:45 p.m. A customer presented tellers with counterfeit instruments, which he exchanged for cash.
• A 74 year-old man of Ferry Road was issued a citation at 3:39 p.m. for failure to drive right after he fell asleep, exited the roadway, and struck a Chevron sign and a rock wall. No injuries were observed or reported. He was operating a 2017 Acura MDX.

• A motor vehicle accident was investigated on Kings Highway near Route 154 at 5:16 p.m. A 25 year-old Ivoryton man was operating a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado K 1500 pick-up truck westbound on Kings Highway when he collided with the end of the guardrail located along the north shoulder of the roadway. No injuries were reported or observed. The vehicle was towed. No enforcement action was indicated in the police press report.

Friday, June 2
• A 54 year-old man of Newport, Rhode Island was arrested at 8:29 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license. Troopers were dispatched to the area of 15 Main Street in Centerbrook for a report of a possible medical situation in a vehicle that was stopped in the middle of the road. Upon arrival a blue Honda Fit was observed to be stopped. Other motorists had exited their vehicles to keep the suspect operator from driving away. While speaking with the suspect driver the investigating trooper smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from inside the vehicle. The suspect’s speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. The suspect agreed to a standardized field sobriety test, which he failed. Open alcoholic beverage containers were also found inside the vehicle.
