Police Incident Report for Jan. 11 to 31
The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Wednesday, Jan. 11

• A 64 year-old Westbrook man was issued a citation at 5:54 p.m. for failure to obey a control signal and failure to carry insurance identification card after the 1997 Lincoln Continental he was operating northbound on Route 153 at the intersection of Westbrook Road struck a 2007 Toyota Rav4 operated by a 16 year-old Colchester girl. The operator of the Toyota was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center in Westbrook for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash. The cited operator of the Lincoln refused medical attention at the scene. Both vehicles were towed.

• A 20 year-old New London man was issued a citation at 3:13 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after he fell asleep while operating a 2000 Ford Focus and struck a wire-rope guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed.

Tuesday, Jan. 17
• A 58 year-old Deep River woman was arrested at 7:32 p.m. on a warrant charging her with larceny in the fourth degree. The alleged victim of the theft was a 94 year-old woman of Main Street in Ivoryton.

• A 41 year-old Killingworth man was issued a citation at 9:07 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 17 year-old Waterford man was issued a citation at 4:14 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after he lost control of the 2006 Ford F150 he was operating and struck a wire-rope guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 32 year-old woman of Piney BR in Ivoryton was issued a citation at 9:11 p.m. for failure to drive right after he traveled off Mares Hill Road northbound and struck an embankment, which caused the vehicle to overturn. No injuries were reported or observed.
Tuesday, Jan. 31
No arrests were made.
• A 74 year-old Chester woman was issued a citation at 12:01 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after she lost control of the 2010 Toyota Corolla she was operating in snowy conditions at the intersection of Route 9 southbound exit 4 at Route 145, slid through the intersection, and struck a metal-beam guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed.
• A 68 year-old man of Windemere Way in Ivoryton was issued a citation at 12:11 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after he lost control of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee he was operating on Old Dobbin Lane struck a 2012 Subaru Outback operated eastbound on Mares Hill Road by a 60 year-old man of Westwood Road in Ivoryton. The cited operator slid past a stop sign in snowy conditions. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A one-vehicle accident was investigated at 9:12 a.m. A 28 year-old East Haddam woman was operating a 2000 Chevy Impala when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a wire-rope guardrail. No injuries were observed by police and the operator refused medical attention at the scene. No enforcement action was indicated in the police report.

• A 32 year-old North Windham woman was issued a citation at 7:15 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after she lost control of the 2009 Ford Flex Limited she was operating eastbound on Kelsey Hill Road in snowy conditions and struck a rock located off the roadway. No injuries were reported or observed.
• A 59 year-old Middletown man was issued a citation at 5:56 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after he lost control of the 2007 Ford F150 he was operating in snowy conditions and struck a wire-rope guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed. The vehicle was driven from the scene.

Friday, Jan. 27
• A 68 year-old man of Falls Landing Road was arrested at 4:44 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and improper parking following a motor vehicle stop on Elm Street for erratic driving. The accused failed to standard field sobriety test.

Friday, Jan. 13
• A 48 year-old Westbrook man was arrested at 2:53 p.m. and charged with possession of greater than four ounces of marijuana and sale or intent to sell a controlled substance. The marijuana and $3,989 in cash were seized. He was processed on a $25,000 non-surety bond.
Saturday, Jan. 14 to Tuesday, Jan. 17
No arrests were made.
Wednesday, Jan. 18
• A 24 year-old Deep River man was issued a citation at 7:56 p.m. for failure to drive right and traveling too fast for conditions after he lost control of the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution he was operating northbound on Winthrop Road and struck a utility pole. The driver was not injured, but two passengers reported minor injuries: a 24 year-old woman of Winthrop Road and a 21 year-old woman of Putnam Valley, New York.
• The theft of two motor vehicles from 73 Maple Avenue was investigated at 7:58 a.m. Between 2:30 and 7:30 a.m., a black 2007 BMW 328CI bearing Connecticut registration plate AF31528 and a grey 2014 Hyundai Sonata bearing Connecticut registration plate 8AFPE3 were stolen from the driveway of the residence. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Troop F state police at 860-399-2100. All calls will be kept confidential. The complainants were a 21 year-old woman of 73 Maple Avenue and a 21 year-old Old Saybrook man.

• A 27 year-old woman of Rehoboth, Massachusetts was issued a citation at 4:58 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after she lost control of the 2012 Kia Optima she was operating and ran off the roadway. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 42 year-old Middletown man was issued a citation at 7:50 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after he lost control of the 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT he was operating a struck a wire-rope guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed.
