Essex Police Incident Report for April 11 to 17


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content. • No arrests were made and no incidents were reported.

• At 6:30 p.m. Trooper Paul Gunn reported that a 24 year-old man of Montgomery, Massachusetts was operating a 2003 Nissan 350Z when he passed another vehicle, lost control, drove off the roadway, and struck a rock ledge off the right shoulder. No injuries were reported at the scene. A second vehicle may have been involved in the crash. Witnesses to the accident are asked to call Trooper Gunn at 860-399-2100.

• A 32 year-old Higganum man was arrested at 7:57 a.m. on a warrant charging him with illegal dumping. The accused was located at the Middlesex Shoreline Clinic where he was receiving treatment for injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident that occurred the previous evening. Once released from the clinic Trooper First Class Conrad Winalski took the accused into custody for processing. The accused was released after posting bond and issued a May 1 court date.

• A 21 year-old man of Meetinghouse Road in Westbrook and a 23 year-old man of East Pond Meadow Road in Westbrook were arrested on warrants for their involvement of the Alpaca killings during the fall of 2011 at Applesauce Acres Farm located at 99 Bushy Hill Road in the Ivoryton section of Essex. Both men turned themselves over to police knowing arrest warrants had been issued. The 21 year-old was charged with burglary in the third degree, conspiracy to commit burglary in the third degree, larceny in the fifth degree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the fifth degree, animal cruelty, criminal trespass in the first degree, and criminal mischief in the first degree. He was processed and held in lieu of a $75,000 surety bond pending court arraignment on April 18. The 23 year-old was charged with burglary in the third degree, conspiracy to commit burglary in the third degree, larceny in the fifth degree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the fifth degree, conspiracy to commit animal cruelty, and conspiracy to commit criminal mischief in the first degree. He was processed and held in lieu of a $50,000 surety bond pending court arraignment on April 18. Essex Resident Trooper Kerry Taylor and Detective Scott Wiener and Sergeant Joseph Quilty from the Central District Major Crime Unit continue to investigate the case. Additional arrests are possible.
