Seals Make a Splash At Hammonasset


A portion of over 700 spectators line the beach at Hammonasset Beach State Park on July 25 awaiting the release of 4 gray seals back into the wild. Mystic Aquarium released four young gray seals in the early morning hours after months of rehabilitation from injuries. The seals named Sealy-Dan, Cavatelli, Orecchiette, and Tortellini were deemed fit to be released and all received acoustic tags which witch can be detected by receivers in the water to track their movements.
