Glenn Mott got the best experience that he could have asked for while playing in the Max Sinoway 15-U baseball program this summer. Glenn put together a great season to help his Sinoway team win the District 2 title while he competed alongside his brother Gage and was coached by their father Glenn. The experience of the recent summer helped Glenn improve his game in preparation to play high school baseball at Notre Dame-West Haven next year.

Glenn was on the mound when his Sinoway squad claimed the District 2 crown by earning a 13-3 win versus Stratford. Glenn enjoyed playing summer baseball due to his team’s desire to win while having plenty of fun in the process. Sinoway’s championship victory proved the best of both worlds for the young pitcher.

“It was pretty fun and competitive at the same time. We’re trying to win, but we’re also having a lot of fun at the same time,” says Glenn. “In our last game against Stratford, it really got our team hyped up, so it made it really fun that game.”

When he wasn’t bringing the heat on the mound, Glenn was making an impact at the plate and in center field for his Sinoway team. Glenn always made an effort to get better and wanted to make sure that his own improvements had a positive impact on the squad. Glenn felt confident in his abilities to pitch, but made sure to work on his performance at the plate throughout the season.

“I just wanted to focus on getting better at hitting. I wasn’t consistently good,” Glenn says. “I kept practicing hitting a lot more, practicing a lot harder. I think I improved pretty well.”

Glenn used summer baseball to work on his skills in the batter’s box while also honing his pitching abilities, which are the biggest strength of his game. Glenn pitched in several games for Sinoway this year and only took one loss for the entire season.

“Being able to pitch well, you need to pick your spots in the strike zone and be able to get batters to swing on certain counts,” Glenn says. “If you’re not able to do very well doing that, then they’ll just keep getting hits off of you.”

Head Coach Todd Kennedy viewed Glenn as a leader for his team. While Glenn isn’t the most vocal player in the dugout, Kennedy says that he made his statements with his excellent play on the field.

“He batted in our No. 3 spot, and what was good about that was our two first batters always got on base. Nine out of 10 times, Glenn would come through with a hit to move guys around the base, and he hit for power, as well,” says Kennedy. “They always say whatever you put into something [is] what you’re going to get out. Glenn always puts a lot into his baseball, and he gets a lot, because he works so hard.”

Along with helping his team succeed, Glenn says that there were plenty of other benefits that came from playing in Max Sinoway’s Babe Ruth program. Glenn started playing last fall to get in some extra reps in preparation for his high school career at Notre Dame. While he enjoyed helping his team win the district title during the summer, Glenn took away much more from his experience of playing baseball for Sinoway than the victories.

“Besides the championship, [the best part was] probably just the relationships everyone had with each other. Everyone got together really well,” Glenn says. “It helped us play together as a team really good. It kept us hyped up when we were playing in the championship, and it just gave us no doubt of losing.”

Glenn had the good fortune to play on the same team as his brother Gage this summer. Their father Glenn served as an assistant coach for their Sinoway club. Glenn has learned a lot of valuable lessons from his father both on and off the diamond, and the recent season proved no exception.

“It was pretty good. I knew his coaching style, so it just made it easier,” says Glenn. “Just being more positive when playing and don’t give up mid-game.”

Glenn has always been motivated by observing how other people play the game. Glenn often watches videos of baseball players, analyzing their style and technique in order to enhance his own abilities. Glenn has a great drive to improve in his never-ending quest to become the best baseball player he can be.

As he enters his sophomore year at Notre Dame, Glenn is looking forward to continue playing baseball in order to get ready for the high school season. He played for Notre Dame’s freshman team last year. As he reflects upon his summer campaign with Sinoway, Glenn knows that the experience taught him many valuable lessons about both baseball and himself.

“I’ve just learned to work harder and don’t doubt yourself when playing,” Glenn says. “It’s just going to keep me motivated and keep me wanting to get better as the years come.”
