Amee Lunn: Seeing the Glass Half Full
Those meeting Amee Lunn for the first time in the historic old North Haven firehouse building where her law practice is housed are immediately struck by her warm personality and grateful nature.
In conversations with Amee, the words “grateful,” “lucky,” and “blessed” are often uttered, by this lawyer, wife, and mother of three who says a daily prayer to start out her mornings.
“I feel like I can’t get luckier because I keep falling into the right situations, just like getting space in this great building,” she says.
The office’s architecture makes for a perfect setting for her practice, a mix of elder law and conservatorship work, helping the physically challenged or the elderly. Amee says she saw a need in the community and now gets a wonderful feeling when guiding and helping those in need, including pro bono clients who, Amee says, are unable to help themselves.
As a mother of three children, the youngest being 22 months, Amee has become quite good at juggling and feels lucky, saying, “With my own practice I’ve been able to be really present for my kids.”
Surrounded by historic architect and antique items adorning the lobby and hallways, Amee speaks of the many blessings in her life and the people who support her on her personal journey, like her husband, James.
She met James in high school in Dutchess County, New York, where they grew up, but Amee notes, “We weren’t high school sweethearts, just really close friends.”
After high school, one thing led to another and in 1995 with James wanting to go to school to become a physician’s assistant and Amee planning on law school, they moved to the North Haven area where they finished school and started their family.
When asked about her unusual wedding band arrangement—a J surrounding a beautiful diamond—Amee says, “It’s another one of my crafty inventions.”
Amee, who is of Indian descent, says, “I was sitting on a plane on my way to India to shop for the wedding [after James proposed] and I said, ‘Hey I could have a jeweler there make our wedding band in the shape of a J,’ since it’s half a heart. It just came to me on the 20-something hour flight.”
Another passion of Amee’s is all things exercise and health and inspiring people to exercise because of many benefits for the mind and the body.
“Exercise isn’t a luxury. It should be in the same category as sleeping and eating, even though it’s hard to carve out time,” because it’s so mentally and physically healthy, says Amee.
In fact, Amee has guided many of her friends along the health and fitness path, which included a recent girls weekend where she inspired her gal pals to go on a morning jog.
Those that know her well, including her husband James, say Amee will always go out of her way to help someone who doubts their ability in any form of exercise or race, or changing their eating habits.
A runner in many triathlons along with her family, Amee recently completed her first marathon in Hartford with her husband’s support and hopes to help even more people become aware of the importance of exercise and the mind/body connection.
