Elinor Leffingwell

On Nov. 21, 2024, Elinor “Ellie” Carloni Leffingwell, of 90 River Street, Guilford, passed away peacefully at her home. She was the loving wife of the late John V. Leffingwell. Born in Philadelphia on Aug. 2, 1925, to Warren Furber Jepson and Louise Eldridge Jepson, she spent her childhood in Melrose, Massachusetts, attending Vermont Junior College during World War II. In 1950, she moved to Branford with her late husband, Alfred L. Carloni, where they raised their children and where she was active in the community. In 1977, she moved to Guilford and, in 1989, married John Leffingwell.

Ellie became a real estate broker in 1973 and remained active in the real estate business for 34 years. She successfully owned and operated Carloni Associates/Realtors in Branford before moving to Guilford. She then worked for the Beazley Company and finally for her son Phil at RE/MAX Alliance. She was active in the Guilford Chamber of Commerce and, with her husband, was a member of the Madison Winter Club. She was especially devoted to and active in the First Congregational Church on the Green in Guilford. Ellie was an avid Red Sox fan since 1944 and loved to watch the UConn women play basketball. In her later years, she was politically active, campaigning and canvassing for local and national candidates. She yearned to live to see a woman president and signed her last signature on her absentee ballot for Kamala Harris.

Ellie is survived by her children, Philip (Hope) Carloni of Branford, Kenneth (Jenny) Carloni of Roseburg, Oregon, and Susan Brown of Charleston, SC; beloved grandchildren: Duncan (Marissa) Brown, Tristan (Kara) Brown, Cameron (Kerri) Brown and Lillian Brown and Charlotte (Devin) Carloni, Hannah Carloni and Jacob Carloni; and great-granddaughters, Isabelle and Adalynn Brown. She was predeceased by beloved husbands, Alfred Carloni and John Leffingwell; brothers, Kenneth and Robert Jepson; sisters, Marilyn Lewis and Shirley Bonnell; and son-in-law Peter Brown. She is also survived by her devoted and loving friend Jayne Kubek of East Haven.

Ellie loved life and lived it to the fullest, enjoying music, dancing, and her wonderful family. She had many very special friends whom she knew over her long and happy life, especially her dear neighbors on River Street who loved and cared for her. Her family would also like to thank her many caregivers, and most recently, Ann Marie and Angela, who allowed her to remain in her home until the end.

Friends are invited to a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the First Congregational church, 110 Broad Street, Guilford.
