William Kellow, 75, of Old Saybrook, died at home on July 10, 2024. Bill was born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Jan. 23, 1949, and excelled in the local schools there. He was the son of the late William and Marie (Cooley) Kellow.
Bill graduated from Lafayette College with a degree in metallurgical engineering. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, where he made lifelong friends with Tom Toth, Robert “Willie” Hughes, the late Joel Pisano, and many others. Bill and his Kappa Sigma brothers never tired of retelling stories of their fun times together. No matter where he lived, Bill always attended their gatherings; his wit and sense of humor brought joy to all who knew him.
He married Martha Worden in Stratton, Vermont, on May 14, 1979, and was a loving, devoted husband. Bill worked as an engineer for Combustion Engineering and later ABB-Alstom. In the course of their marriage, Bill and Martha lived in Vermont, New Hampshire, Texas, Georgia, and New Jersey, before settling in Old Saybrook. He most recently worked with Saybrook Associates. Martha and Bill were avid travelers, enjoying different cultures of the world and foods and wines of various regions, as well as enjoying their own local cultural events and restaurants.
In addition to his loving wife Martha, Bill is survived by his stepdaughter Heatha Schena, her husband Tony, and their three children, Mackenzie, Sam, and Kasey. He is lovingly remembered by his cousins: James Souders and wife Anna Souders, Helena Machain and husband James Machain, John Souders, and Christoper and wife Yanine Machain, and Ryan Machain. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Ralph Worden, his wife Carolyn, and their daughter Leigh.
Family and friends gathered for a committal service on Sept. 28, in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, followed by a reception and luncheon to honor Bill’s life.
