Richard R. Carafeno
Richard R. Carafeno of Branford died at his home Nov. 4, 2024. He was the husband of the late Phyllis Carafeno. Richard was born Oct. 7, 1933, in New Haven, a son of late Rome and Willideon Cargill Carafeno.
Richard was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He retired as a foreman from Southern Connecticut Gas Co., where he had worked for many years. Richard was an avid sports fan and rarely missed a UConn women’s basketball game. He enjoyed spending time with his family and learned to enjoy cooking in his later life, recreating many of his wife Phyllis dishes. As he became housebound his greatest joy was his daily visits from his son, Glenn.
He is survived by his children, Kim (Sandy) Sandillo of Branford, Glenn (Tracy) Carafeno of East Haven, and Cheryl Carafeno of Westbrook; his grandchildren, Taylor and Ryan Carafeno, Andrew Gonsalves, Kyle Sandillo, and Vincent Carafeno; and his great-grandchild Jase Carafeno and many nieces and nephews that he cherished. He was predeceased by his son Bryan Carafeno; and grandson Matthew Gonsalves.
