11/08/2024 01:12 PMFrank Avallone of Branford, formerly of Rome, Italy, passed away at the age of 86, on Oct. 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
For 40 years Frank was the devoted husband to Marilyn Avallone. Despite his recent health issues Frank was the patriarch and nucleus of the family.
He leaves behind his seven children and stepchildren, Frank Avallone, Anthony Avallone (Christen), Paul Burton, Chris Burton, Melissa Wood (Jeff), Terry Goodman (Bob), and Ken Burton (Kelly); along with six grandchildren, Abby Goodman, Kendall Flynn, Anthony Avallone, Christopher Avallone, and Quinn and Levi Burton. Frank was an incredibly proud father and grandfather. He also leaves behind his sister Wanda Velez of Cheshire; and brother Tom Avallone of East Haven; and dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his loving parents, Rosa and Gerard Avallone.
Born Dec. 6, 1937. Frank’s early years were spent in Rome, Italy where he grew up and was surrounded by his family and many friends who he kept close to his entire life even though he moved from Rome almost 70 years ago.
After moving to New Haven, Frank learned the language, worked odd jobs and saved enough money to bring his parents, sister and brother over a year later. Frank’s career started after graduating from The University of New Haven with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, ultimately becoming a teacher and then a long employment with Sandvik as a tool and die engineer. In retirement Frank continued his love for teaching with a side hustle teaching Italian from the comfort of his kitchen!
Frank was often referred to as “an angel on earth”, his honesty and caring attitude was above all and only wanted the best for everyone.
A viewing was on Nov. 4 at W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. John Bosco Parish in St. Mary Church, Branford. Burial followed in St. Agnes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. John Bosco Parish, 731 Main Street, Branford, CT 06405.
