Salvatore F. DeMaio Sr.
Salvatore Francis DeMaio Sr. was born May 29, 1933, in New Haven to Charles and Mary Rose (Rubino) DeMaio and passed away on Oct. 6 at home surrounded by his loving family. A proud member of Teamsters 443, Sal drove for more than 40 years and a million miles, making lifelong friends along the way. He believed that anything worth doing was worth doing right, and that is how he lived.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Philomena “Phyllis” Zona DeMaio; his daughters, Maryann (Timothy) Ackerman, Phyllis Manacchio, Angela (Johnny) Furino, Theresa (Robert) Puccino; his sons, Salvatore Jr. and Anthony; and is at rest with his daughter, Rose Marie Rogalski. He will be missed dearly by his 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
His funeral procession left the Porto Funeral Home, 234 Foxon Road, (Route 80) East Haven, on Oct. 11. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in the St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at St. Vincent dePaul Church. Interment followed in All Saints Cemetery. Friends called on Oct. 10.
