10/31/2024 01:13 PMMichael “Ned” Edward Berky, 30, of Missoula, Montana, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 17, 2024. He was the beloved son of Dr. Michael Kurt Berky and Brenda (Birch) Berky of Madison.
Ned was born in New Haven on July 12, 1994. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. from 2012 to 2017, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, Ned spent several years in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, working as an EMT and volunteer firefighter while spending time with his family. He later moved on to Alaska, where he helped train sled dogs with the Seavey family and met his dear four-legged friend, Holtz.
In 2020, Ned and Holtz headed to Montana, where Ned enrolled at the University of Montana as a neuroscience major. The two loved spending time in the beautiful mountains and wilderness of the state.
In addition to his parents, Ned is survived by his two sisters, Brittany J. Turkaj and Molly Rego (Alex); his nephew Jacob Rego; his paternal grandmother, Patricia Berky; his aunts, Terry Birch, Karin Kemper, and Michelle Berky; and his uncle Charles Birch Jr. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Agnes Birc; and paternal grandfather Dr. Michael A. Berky.
A service in honor of Ned was held on Oct. 24 in North Madison Congregational Church, 1271 Durham Road, Madison, with interment at the Summer Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Swan Funeral Home, Madison.
