10/31/2024 01:10 PMJohn Francis Beckert, age 84, died on Sept. 7, 2024, in Vero Beach, Florida, with his family at his side. He was born to the late Francis and Mildred Beckert on May 23, 1940, in New York, New York.
He graduated from St. Agnes High School, Rockville Center, New York, in 1957. A graduate of Dartmouth College, Class of 1961, John received his MBA from the University of New Haven in 1972. Before starting his career in banking, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army in Vietnam until 1967. In 1983, he became the founding president of the Advest Bank in Hartford. In 1993, John became the president and CEO of Farmers & Mechanics Bank, Middletown, and regional president of Citizens Bank of Connecticut. He retired as president of The Hartford Bank in 2000. John had a long history of service to business organizations and community groups and a long list of distinguished awards throughout his career. With every endeavor, friends would say John tackled them with never-ending energy, enthusiasm, and leadership.
John is survived by his wife Jean; son Chris (Kerri); son Thad (Julie); daughter Kathy (Eric) Keener; and six wonderful grandchildren: Kaye, Emma “Emily,” Joslyn, Andrew, Audrey, and Jonathan. John and his wife loved to travel, especially to see family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at West Cemetery, Madison.
