MaryLou Regan

MaryLou “Lou” Regan of East Haven, formerly of North Branford, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Francis Regan and the cherished mother of Joseph Regan (Betsy), Larry Regan (JoAnn), Tara Simler (Scott), and Tricia Richman (Stefan). She is also survived by her adored sister, Kathy Abate (Art). She was the proud “Grammy Lou” of Emma, Abby, and David Regan; Ryan (Emily), Olivia, Will, Paige, Kelsey Simler; Brenna Calandra; and Kyle and Megan Richman; as well as the great-grandmother of Sophie Simler. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Mary Spillane; and brother Charles Spillane Jr.

Lou was a devoted mother, sewing clothes and Halloween costumes, baking homemade birthday cakes, participating in the PTA, chaperoning school trips, and never missing a school activity. She gathered her family for Sunday dinners around the dining room table each week. She was our biggest cheerleader and supporter, embodying the essence of a mother with her kindness, love, and gentleness. She transitioned seamlessly to the role of Grammy Lou, sharing her time and love with her grandchildren.

Faith was central to Lou’s life. She served as Eucharist minister for many years, taught CCD classes, volunteered for fundraising events, and ran the CCD program at St. Augustine Church of St. Ambrose Parish in North Branford. Lou’s kind and gentle nature was a light to everyone around her throughout her life. Her light will continue to shine through her sister, children, and grandchildren. She was, and will always be, the wind beneath our wings. She will be greatly missed and forever cherished.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Oct. 19 at St. Augustine Church of St. Ambrose Parish in North Branford. Burial followed in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. Friends called on Oct. 18 at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Ambrose Parish, 30 Caputo Road, North Branford, CT 06405. Please see her online memorial @ www.wsclancy.com.
