Lorraine Ann Lorenze
Lorraine Ann Lorenze (Castellazzo), of Branford, formerly of Guilford and Kiawah Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Oct. 8, 2024, at the age of 81.
Lorraine was the loving wife of the late John Lorenze. Despite his recent passing, she remained a “pillar of strength” for her family. She leaves behind her two cherished children, Mark (Nancy) Lorenze and Amy (Todd) DeMarseilles; along with her six beloved grandchildren, Whitney, Zachary, Paige, Julia, Jack, and Will. Being a devoted “Nana” brought her immeasurable joy; her family was truly her world.
Born Nov. 21, 1942, Lorraine’s early years were spent in Orange, where she grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large and loving extended family. She graduated from Amity High School in 1960 and later earned a degree in History and Teaching from Connecticut College.
Lorraine’s career as a history teacher at Guilford High School and Hamden Hall Country Day School left a lasting impact on generations of students. With unwavering dedication, she created a nurturing environment where every student felt valued and encouraged to achieve their best. Her impeccable sense of style and graceful confidence added to the warm, welcoming presence she brought to the classroom and beyond.
Lorraine was known not only for her professional accomplishments but also for the deep relationships she built. As a devoted wife, loving mother, doting Nana, and loyal friend, Lorraine had an extraordinary ability to make those around her feel seen, heard, and cherished. Her warm smile, gentle touch, and sincere compassion brightened the lives of many, and to know her was a gift.
A private family celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to Connecticut Hospice in her honor. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, Guilford.
