Adrienne Samuelson

Adrienne Marie Samuelson, 87, of Centerbrook, passed away peacefully on Sept. 23, 2024, at home, surrounded by her family and caregivers. Born May 18, 1937, in Middletown, he was the daughter of the late Anthony Calamari and Armida Calamari. Adrienne was a lifelong resident of Essex, and in 1956, she married Arthur Samuelson on his return from the Korean War. Adrienne and Art raised four children and resided in Centerbrook since 1963.

Adrienne was a talented artist, and she began her professional career by having several art shows at the Foot of Main Gallery in Essex. Adrienne’s still life acrylic on canvas paintings were extremely detailed and admired by all who saw them. Adrienne continued her career by designing greeting cards, wrapping paper, wallpaper, and other items for the Gordon Fraser Company. Gordon Fraser was a British publisher considered to have “revolutionized greetings card design and quality,” in which Adrienne was a major factor in his company’s success.

Adrienne is survived by her four children: Todd Samuelson and his wife Lida; Scot Samuelson and his husband Dan; Dr. Keli Samuelson and Dirk Samuelson; as well as her grandchildren: Troy Samuelson, Haley Kendall and her husband Maxim, Kindra Samuelson-Faucher, Tristen Samuelson and Gerard Samuelson, who fondly knew her as “Nina.” She is also survived by her loving sister, Diana Calamari; her niece, Katie Calamari; and Katie’s mother, Cathy Delano. Adrienne was predeceased by her loving brother Gerard Calamari, who left us too early in life. Adrienne became the matriarch of her family with the passing of her mother, “Nana,” and continued the legacy of this role until the day she passed. Adrienne loved hosting family gatherings, and all her extended family were always welcome and cherished.

Adrienne’s family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the entire staff of Indulgent Care for providing the most kind, compassionate, and respectful care for her. Their unwavering support of both Adrienne and her family does not go unrecognized. They are truly angels on earth.

At Adrienne’s request, her burial will be private; however, a public Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at her residence, 41 Woodland Drive, Centerbrook. Adrienne will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who knew her. Her joyful presence and infectious laughter will live on in our hearts. When one is taken, love saves their place.
