Ryan Delane Burns


Ryan Delane Burns of Branford, age 43, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Sept. 12, 2024, in Branford. Ryan was born on Sept. 1, 1981. Ryan was the beloved son of Patrick Telford Burns of New Haven and Mary Shine Burns of Guilford.

Ryan is survived by his Aunt Pamela Skeens and his cousin Allyson (Jeff) Tanner of Old Saybrook. Ryan is also survived by several relatives in Ireland: Uncle Jeremiah (Theresa) Shine of Ballyclough, County Cork, Uncle Patrick (Kathleen) Shine of Tullylease, County Cork; and his cousins, Aidan (Ann) Shine, Bottlehill, County Cork, Austin Shine of Tullylease, County Cork, Edel (Conor) Kelleher of Brisbane, Australia, Liam (Rosie) Shine, County Limerick, Donal (Suzanne) Shine, County Tipperary, Derry (Donna) Shine of Dublin and Andrew (Kay) Shine of Ballyclough, County Cork.

Ryan was predeceased by his grandparents, Donald and Anne Burns of West Haven and Andrew and Bridget Shine of Tullylease, County Cork, Ireland; his uncle Donald Burns, Jr. of West Haven; and by his beloved dog, Bubba.

Ryan lived in West Haven and attended Foote School in New Haven until 1993 and then moved to Guilford. During his teenage years, he worked with his father at Burns Excavating and Demolition Company. Ryan played football for Guilford High School and graduated in 2000, where he formed long-lasting friendships. Anthony Cassesse, Ian Porter, Jamie Mitchell, Kyle Rose, Graham Sears of Cleveland, Ohio, and Nick Migliore of Boca Raton, Florida.

George and Eileen Charlesworth of Guilford and the Mary Porter family of Clinton were cherished friends who were like family to Ryan.

Ryan owned Newmarket Associates in Branford. His passion as a hobby for sports led to establishing Shoreline Cards & Collectibles, where he became the promoter of tradeshows at the Westbrook Outlets. Ryan possessed a quiet strength. He was loyal and trustworthy, and he was always there for loved ones and friends whenever he was needed. Ryan was a very kind person and a gentle soul with a quick wit. He enjoyed visiting with his cousins in Ireland since he was nine months old.

Funeral services were held Sept. 25 at Keenan Funeral Home, followed by a private burial. Donations in Ryan’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and the American Heart Association.
