Madelyn Robbins


Madelyn Robbins, 95, of Deep River, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-aunt, died Sept. 30, 2024, at her home. Madelyn was born May 13, 1929, in New York City, the beloved daughter of William and Harriet (Sherwood) Kelly.

Madelyn married her late husband, Joseph Robbins, in 1947. They had two daughters, Sandra and Jo-Ann, and raised them in Old Lyme. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church in Chester.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra McCurdy (Rick) and Jo-Ann Kurze; her grandchildren, Wayne McCurdy and Katie Ahlgren (Chris); her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Hadley and Bode Ahlgren; her only surviving brother, Jerry Kelly; and several nieces and nephews.

A public visitation was held on Oct. 3 at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, in Centerbrook. A Mass of Christian burial followed at St. Joseph Church, 48 Middlesex Avenue, Chester. Burial followed in the Fountain Hill Cemetery, 57 High Street, Deep River.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Madelyn’s name may be made to the Kirtland Commons Kitchen Fund, the Deep River Ambulance Association, or the Deep River Fire Department.

The family would like to thank the Deep River Ambulance Association and the Deep River Fire Department for their caring support, as well as her many friends at Kirtland Commons.
