09/26/2024 04:15 PMDominic A. Lion, 97, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Sept. 19, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 65 years to MaryLou Amarante Lion. Dominic was born in Jamaica Queens, New York, on Aug. 22, 1927, the son of the late Peter and Alice Simoni Lion.
He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during World War II. Dominic worked for Yale University for over 50 years until his retirement. He was an avid reader and a history buff, and he enjoyed doing puzzles. In earlier years, he loved playing cards, bowling, and going to the casino with all his brothers. Dominic was a sports enthusiast and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics.
Father of Joseph Lion (Angela), Donna Cretella, Philip Lion (fiancée Jodie), and Robert Lion. Loving PaPa to Brittany Sabadoz (Robbie), Stephanie Lion (Anthony Dugay), Alyssa Cretella (fiancé Tim Arpin), Morgan Lion (Justin Ciambelli), Briana Lion (Brian Tait), Joseph Lion, Jr., Vincent Cretella, Jr. (Morgan Chiasera) and Christopher Lion (Parneet Chhatwal). Great-PaPa to Isla, Owen, Reese, and Daniel. Brother of Tina Leary and the late Frank, John, Daniel, Peter, and Joseph Lion.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff at MidState Medical Center and his hospice nurses.
The visiting hours were on Sept. 23 at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven.
