Irene Loescher
It is with both deep sadness and great joy in a long, happy life that we announce the passing of Irene Edith Loescher on Sept. 5, 2024, at the age of 98. Irene was born on Feb. 27, 1926, in New Haven.
She and her husband “Cutch” enjoyed fishing and sailing together and raising three boys. She worked as a freelance graphic artist. Irene was an independent, active, vibrant person who brought joy to every person she met with her friendly smile and her can-do attitude. Even at the age of 94, she would take the Nine Town Transit bus every day to the YMCA for a swim, aqua size class and return home to paint watercolors.
She is survived by her children, Paul and Barbara Loescher, Bill Loescher and his partner Sandy Cook, Mark Loescher; her grandchildren: Elyse Berco, Eric Loescher, Scott Loescher and Gale Loescher; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence “Cutch” Loescher; her mother Edith Broomfield; her father John Broomfield; and her siblings: Alan Broomfield, Winnie Maroney and Lincoln Broomfield.
As per her wishes, no funeral or memorial services will be held. Irene was always looking forward to the future and never dwelled on the past. So, with that in mind, her son Paul thought we should look to the future and support the organization that brought such joy to her life every day. Please make donations in her honor to the Valley Shore YMCA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Shore YMCA, mailed to PO Box 694, Westbrook, CT 06498, or online at vsymca.org and clicking the Give link.
