09/19/2024 05:22 PMAnn Heim Fenn, 93, passed away on Sept. 13, 2024, at the Evergreen Woods retirement community in North Branford. She and her husband, Robert S. Fenn, lived in Old Saybrook for more than 30 years.
The daughter of Horace and Ruth Heim, Ann was born in 1931 and grew up in Montoursville, Pennsylvania. She attended Montoursville public schools and went on to earn a B.A. from Duke University and an M.A. from Columbia University. She was a devoted social studies teacher who practiced her craft in public schools in California, Georgia, and New Jersey.
Ann’s ancestors included Methodists, Lutherans, and Baptists, as well as Dunkards, who were part of the Blooming Grove Meeting at Cogan Station, Pennsylvania. The men in Ann’s father’s family were businessmen. Her mother’s family farmed for five generations on the Schoch Farm in Montoursville. As a child, Ann spent many happy hours at the Schoch Farm with her grandparents and great-grandparents. She fondly remembered her Aunt Elsie taking her bobsledding every winter. Ann spent summers at Camp Bil-O-Wood in Blind River, Ontario, where she was a girls’ canoe instructor.
In addition to teaching, Ann devoted many years to caring for her son Timothy, who suffered severe injuries in a rock climbing accident.
Survivors include her brother, Donald Heim, and his wife, Betty Jo, of Jersey Shore. Three children and two grandchildren also survive her: daughter Elizabeth Fenn and her husband, Peter Wood; son Jonathan Fenn, his wife Annie, and their sons, Jack and Nick; and son Timothy Fenn.
