09/12/2024 01:35 PMRobert J. Grimshaw, 92, of East Haven, passed away peacefully on Aug. 27, 2024. Robert was the beloved husband of 68 years to the late Jean D.(Sparapani) Grimshaw. He was born on Oct. 25, 1931, son of the late Raymond and Catherine Grimshaw.
Bob’s life revolved around his family. He was the loving father of Lorraine (James) Sheehan of Cheshire and Roberta (Michael) Gambardella of East Haven; also, brother of Carol Mennone of West Haven and Barbara Davidson of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Bob was the loving grandfather of Katherine (Garrett) Ebersole, Robert (Stephanie) Sheehan, James Sheehan Jr., Christine (William) Rose, and Michele (Connor) Isnard; great-grandfather of Charlotte and Avery Rose and Christopher Sheehan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his brothers, Edward, Raymond, John, and Thomas Grimshaw; and sisters, Mary Soules, Catherine (Kay) Ceraso, and Theresa Souhrada.
A dedicated professional, Bob retired from SNET after 36 years of devoted service. Prior to his career in communications, he served as a submariner in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. A lifetime supporter of the Yankees and UConn women’s basketball, Bob was a true sports fan. He pined for the days of Mantle and Maris and, more recently, enjoyed the ascension of Aaron Judge. He made it a priority to travel with his wife, Jean, to countless sporting events, including several Final Fours and UConn championships. He also traveled the country, supporting Jean in many bowling tournaments over the years.
A Catholic service took place on Aug. 31 at Maresca and Son Funeral Home, 592 Chapel St., New Haven. Interment followed at All Saints Cemetery. There were no calling hours.
