Alberta Monahan
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Alberta “Dee” Monahan.
On Aug. 31, 2024, she passed away at home peacefully, yet unexpectedly. She was a bright, energetic light in all our lives and will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. Her curious nature and love of people was evident in every interaction.
She cared deeply about those around her and never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or a special moment in others' lives.
Since moving back to Connecticut six years ago, her life was blessed with fun family activities and quality time together. Her passions ranged from weekly bridge games to volunteering at St. George Food Pantry. Dee was a voracious reader, made evident by her weekly visits to the library. She recently traveled to Spain and Ireland, which fueled her sense of adventure! She made the world a better place, which her community at River Colony felt every day. Her presence is already missed, but we are grateful to have had her for 88 beautiful years.
Dee was predeceased by her husband, James, of 58 years. She is survived by her three children, Lynn (Matthew), Tina (Jim), and Jim (Meredith); and nine grandchildren: Chelsey (Frank), Sydney, Storm, Troy, and Quinn; Caitlin (Zachary) and Ryan; Liam and Finn; plus her great-granddaughter, Gemma.
Please join the family in celebrating Dee’s life at her memorial service, which will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at St. George Church in Guilford. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice or The St. George Food Pantry in Guilford. Arrangements are in care of the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. To share a memory or leave condolences, visit www.guilfordfuneralhome.com.
