John D’Agostino Jr.


John A. D’Agostino Jr., 69, of Westbrook, formerly Lincoln, Rhode Island, died unexpectedly on Aug. 7, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital. John was born on June 22, 1955, in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the late John and Louise (Gilluly) D’Agostino of Lincoln. He graduated from Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, Massachusetts, in 1974 and started a family shortly thereafter. In 1984, he and his young family relocated to Westbrook.

John was talented in many trades, including manufacturing, construction, and property management, and also served for several years as a reserve officer with the Smithfield, Rhode Island, Police Department. He was passionate about nature and photography and enjoyed bird watching and fishing. He was best known for his storytelling and his big, contagious smile. John’s greatest pride and joy came from being Grandpa to his adored grandbabies, Kyle and Ayla.

John retired from Cromwell Board of Education in 2018, after 24 years as a building maintenance supervisor, which began with the Westbrook Board of Education in 1994. John also served proudly as chief steward for the municipal employees union, SEIU. After he retired, he worked as the property manager of the apartment complex where he resided for 35 years.

John is survived by his children, Amy L. (D’Agostino) Czenthe and John A. (aka Tony) D’Agostino Ill; former son-in-law Stephan A. Czenthe; grandchildren, Kyle S. Czenthe and Ayla M. Czenthe; siblings, Mary Louise (Ward) Stiles, Margaret D’Agostino, Joan M. Camire, Ann Marie (Charles) McGinn and Paul (Lynda) D’Agostino; brother-in-law Charles Hunter; and four nieces; and seven nephews who referred to him fondly as “Uncle Buck.” He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine J. (Charles) Hunter, and brother-in-law, Joseph E. Camire.

John will be forever missed by his family and many friends. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
