Helen McInerney
Helen Cappiello McInerney, 94, of North Haven, made her final journey home peacefully on Aug. 29, 2024, at MidState Medical Center, Meriden, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of 41 years to the late George T. McInerney. Helen was born in New Haven on March 13, 1930, and was the daughter of the late John and Olympia Croce Cappiello.
A graduate of the former Commercial High School and Stone’s Business School, Helen was a switchboard operator for the former Shartenberg’s Department Store in New Haven and was the executive secretary for the president of the former Cott Beverage in New Haven. She also worked for her family’s business, the former Cappies Pizza in New Haven, Northford, and Hamden. Helen later worked at Quinnipiac University for many years until her retirement.
She loved to decorate around her home, especially at Christmas time. She was a dedicated New York Mets and UConn womens basketball fan, but most of all, her true enjoyment was spending time with her family whom she loved unconditionally. She was the mother of Michael J. McInerney, Barbara Tiedemann (Robert), and Linda Havrda (William); mother-in-law of Lisa McInerney; grandmother of Brian McInerney, Nicole Brigiarelli (Ben), Matthew McInerney (Jaclyn), Taylor Shorter (Michael), Christopher McInerney (Alyssa), William Havrda, Michael Tiedemann (fiancée Nicole Onofrio), and Eric Tiedemann; great-grandmother of Benjamin, Caleb, Nora, Violet, Johanna, Mia, Michael, Dylan, Malcom, and arriving in September, Scarlet Helene. She was predeceased by her brother, John Cappiello, and a sister, Laura Verna.
The visiting hours were on Sept. 3 at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Sept. 4, in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
