Nancy Kops

Nancy Nachman Kops, 98, of North Branford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the family she loved, on July 31, 2024, in her apartment at Evergreen Woods. Nancy is survived by her sons, Daniel W. Kops Jr. (Sandra) and Stephen R. Kops (Lisa); a daughter, Cynthia A. Pacini, (Richard); seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight nieces; and one nephew. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Daniel W. Kops Sr., and her brother M.R. Nachman Jr.

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, on Nov. 14, 1925, Nancy attended local schools until spending her senior year at school in Massachusetts. She then attended Barnard College until she left to marry the love of her life, Dan, in 1947. After living briefly in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and New York City, they moved to New Haven in 1950. Nancy and Dan loved to travel and went all over the world. Once her children were older, she opened and managed Kops-Monahan Travel in New Haven. She served on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Savings Bank and volunteered at numerous organizations, including the Yale-New Haven Candy Stripers, the Greater New Haven United Way, and parent-teacher organizations at several schools. She donated generously to many local, national, and international institutions. After moving to Evergreen Woods in 2007, she served two terms as president of the Residents’ Council and was quite active in several other related groups. She received an honorary degree from Albertus Magnus College.

Above all, she loved her family and close friends. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Connecticut Hospice, Evergreen Woods Health Center, Nerisa’s Home Care Services, and Yale-New Haven Hospital for the care and kindness she received over her last few months.

The family will hold a celebration of her life, followed by a reception, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the New Haven Lawn Club, 193 Whitney Ave., New Haven. A graveside service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be sent to Connecticut Hospice, United Way of Greater New Haven, or Doctors Without Borders. Arrangements are being handled by Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, Hamden. To share condolences, please visit www.beecherandbennett.com.
