Clarence DeMond Jr.
Clarence Belton DeMond Jr., 90, of Guilford, passed away peacefully at Hospice in Branford on July 26, 2024, after a short illness. “Ben,” as he was affectionately known, was born Feb. 1, 1934, in New Haven, to the late Clarence Belton DeMond Sr. and the late Georgianna Cook DeMond.
Ben was predeceased by his sister, Sandra D. Lamberton, and nephew, Kevin M. McNeil. He leaves sisters Joan D. McNeil of Guilford and Lorraine D. Pendleton of Lowell, Michigan. He also leaves his supportive nephews, Brian Pendleton (Lugene), Steve Pendleton (Ann), Bruce Pendleton, Shaun McNeil, Patrick McNeil (Suzanne), Roy Lamberton (Kristin), Eric Lamberton (Christy) and Craig Lamberton (David); and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Ben served his country in the U.S. Army. He was an accomplished carpenter and served in the Guilford Volunteer Fire Department as lieutenant, captain, deputy chief, assistant chief, and retiring as chief in 1984.
