Barbara Carol Archer


Barbara “Barbie” Carol Eastman Archer, 82, of Clinton, beloved wife of Kenneth R. Archer, passed away on July 31, 2024, in Hartford after a long illness surrounded by family. Born in Guilford at the Guilford Sanatorium on Oct. 16, 1941. Marrying the love of her life, Kenneth Archer, Feb. 17, 1962. They were lovingly and happily married 62 years.

Barbara grew up in Guilford and Madison, where she attended Daniel Hand. The Connecticut Water Company in Clinton was her first job. As her family grew, she worked for the Clinton School System thus being able to be home for her sons as well as work outside the home. She had a passion for children as she provided childcare for a family friend’s daughter.

Barbara was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church, a member of the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and a member and historian for the Clinton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. As a kidney transplant recipient, she was asked to be on the Hartford Hospital Advisory Board, helping future transplant patients.

She was predeceased by her parents, Albert Irving Eastman and Caroline Carstens Eastman, and her infant son Kenneth “Rusty” Russell Archer, II. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Archer; sons, R. Scott Archer (Ginny Archer) of Clinton and Kevin M. Archer (Val Archer) of Burlington, North Dakota; sister, Dottie Eastman Simonides (Gerry Simonides) of Madison; niece Cheryl Archer Kassoy of Marlborough, Massachusetts; nephew, Greg Simonides of Madison; along with four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Calling hours were held on Aug. 7 at Swan Funeral Home in Clinton. A graveside service was held on Aug. 8 at Indian River Cemetery located on Cemetery Road in Clinton.
