07/25/2024 12:28 PMFrank “Sonny” J. Malin Sr., 92, of Wallingford, formerly of North Haven, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024, at home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean Miranda Malin. Sonny was born in New Haven on Sept. 29, 1931, and was the son of the late Andrew and Sarah Silvestro Malin.
He served his country faithfully during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post 45 in Wallingford. Sonny and his brother Andrew were the owners and operators of Malin, Inc. for many years, and he later worked as a mechanic for the former Scarpo & Son until his retirement.
Sonny was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Giants and the UConn women’s basketball team. He enjoyed traveling, reading, puzzles, walking, gardening, pizza parties, the beach, and a glass of wine, but most of all time, he spent with his family and friends. His happiest moments were when the whole family, whom he loved unconditionally, was together.
He was the father of Frances Lamson (Scott), Sarah Bochicchio (Lenny), Frank Malin Jr. (Cathy) and Loretta Budd; beloved grandfather of Lauren Bochicchio (Chris Beaver), Elena Bochicchio (AJ McBride), Kenneth Budd (fiancée Angela Capella), Patrick Malin (fiancée Brittany Levine) and Christopher Malin (fiancée Grace Mayhew); great-grandfather of Olivia and Liam McBride, Bobby Budd, Aidan Beaver and Ethan McBride; brother of Andrew Malin Jr. (Mary “Marie”); and brother-in-law of Mafalda (Bunny) Rapuano. He is also survived by his “bonus family,” whom he loved dearly: Debora and Joel Martin and Donna and Dave Rackie and their children, Justin (Kayla) and Kelly Martin and Deanna and Derrick Rackie. He also leaves behind many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews. Special to him were Mary Stuart (Doug), Marlene Ibsen (Jim), Andrea Cunha (Ryan), Paul Rebeschi (Laurie), Kathie Miranda (Andy Krzywosz), Matt, Mark, Peter and William DeBrino, Veronica Kastukevich (Greg), and their families. He was predeceased by his second wife Ceilia Manthay Malin and his son-in-law Tom Budd. The family would like to thank his devoted caregiver, Marina Gvelesiani, for her dedication and compassion.
The visiting hours will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, July 27, at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.
